Whether your child is just starting out or already in a soccer program, regular practice at home can make a huge difference in their skill development. At 2Addictive Lifestyles Training Centre, we encourage young players to take their learning beyond the field with fun, simple drills that build confidence, coordination, and control.
Here are 5 easy soccer drills your child can do at home — no big backyard or expensive gear needed!
1. Wall Pass Practice
What it trains: First touch, passing accuracy, ball control
How to do it:
- Find a wall or fence.
- Have your child pass the ball against it and control it on the return.
- Try alternating between left and right foot.
⏱️ Do this for 3 rounds of 1 minute.
Tip: Mark a target on the wall with tape or chalk for accuracy.
2. Cone Dribbling Challenge
What it trains: Ball control, agility, coordination
How to do it:
- Set up 5–6 cones (or plastic bottles/shoes if you don’t have cones).
- Dribble through the cones slowly, then build up speed.
- Focus on keeping the ball close to the feet.
⏱️ Repeat for 3–5 sets with 30 seconds rest in between.
3. Juggling Practice
What it trains: Touch, focus, balance
How to do it:
- Start by juggling with the dominant foot, then alternate.
- If juggling is hard, try one-touch taps letting the ball bounce between touches.
- Count how many juggles without dropping — try to beat yesterday’s score!
4. Toe Taps + Foundations Combo
What it trains: Footwork, stamina, coordination
How to do it:
- 30 seconds of fast toe taps on the ball
- 30 seconds of “foundations” (light touches between both feet)
- Repeat 3 times
This is a great warm-up drill and helps with foot speed!
5. Target Shot Game
What it trains: Shooting accuracy, fun under pressure
How to do it:
- Set up different targets using cones, cushions, or buckets.
- Each target is worth points.
- Let them compete against their own score or challenge a sibling/friend!
Make it a Weekly Routine
Encourage your child to train 2–3 times a week for just 15–20 minutes. Keeping things fun and consistent will help them improve faster — and love the game even more!
